Description:
Inside the Fuhrerbunker as the Battle of Berlin erupted around the German capital, Adolf Hitler made the decision to take his life as the Second World War led to defeat for the Germans. The bunker had been cut off by the advancing Soviet Red Army, and Berlin itself was isolated from the rest of Germany. The situation looked dire, and with this on the 30th April 1945 Hitler died inside the bunker alongside his wife Eva Braun. He had previously issued instructions as to what would happen to his body after his death.

But who were the men that were tasked with burning the body of Adolf Hitler? As his body was carried out of the bunker it was placed into a bomb crater and a small group of men followed to pay their respects and to help burn the body of the Nazi dictator. Initial efforts did not work, and it was Martin Bormann who lit the paper that began the cremation process of Hitler. However who else was present?

In this video we look at the men that burned Hitlers body. It took hours for this to happen, and eventually the Soviet Red Army did recover some remains of Adolf Hitler. This act in Berlin in 1945 signalled the end of Nazi Germany and the end of the Third Reich as a whole as the Second World War in Europe came to an end.
